As Filix joins the Luminii family, its story is about more than expanding a product portfolio. It is the story of a company that built its reputation by solving some of the toughest engineering challenges in architectural lighting. In a recent conversation, Luminii’s Taylor Jacobs sat down with Filix co-founder Marko Jurman to discuss the company’s origins, philosophy, and what customers can expect moving forward.

Founded nearly 20 years ago in a small Croatian town near the Adriatic Sea, Filix grew up designing products for environments defined by salt, moisture, wind, and demanding outdoor conditions. Rather than competing across every lighting category, the company focused on becoming exceptional in one of the industry’s most challenging specialties: specification-grade underwater lighting.
“We wanted to build a product that could be delivered anywhere in the world—and thrive in that environment.”
Starting underwater may seem unconventional, but it established the engineering principles that still define Filix today. Waterproofing, corrosion resistance, thermal management, optics, and long-term reliability all had to work flawlessly. Those lessons became the foundation for the company’s complete outdoor portfolio, including landscape, façade, in-grade, and urban lighting solutions.

Filix designs, develops, and manufactures its products in-house. Mechanical engineers work alongside manufacturing teams, supported by an extensive testing laboratory where products undergo IP waterproof testing, IK impact testing, salt spray exposure, climate testing, and drive-over load validation.
“We design, develop and manufacture our products in-house because we want to understand every part of why the product performs the way it does.”
Many Filix innovations began with conversations with architects and lighting designers rather than product roadmaps. When modifications are technically feasible and safe, the team embraces the challenge. That customer-first approach mirrors Luminii’s philosophy of coming from a place of yes and has resulted in products that solve real project needs instead of hypothetical ones.
Great engineering should make projects easier—not more complicated. Filix designs products with the entire project team in mind: designers seeking creative freedom, contractors looking for straightforward installation, and owners expecting long-term performance. Clear documentation, responsive support, and thoughtful installation details help deliver confidence from specification through commissioning.
Despite having roughly half of its portfolio dedicated to underwater applications, Filix reports warranty claims of only about two to two-and-a-half percent. That confidence inspired a streamlined, no-questions-asked warranty philosophy focused on resolving issues quickly.
“Our goal is simple: give our partners confidence and peace of mind.”

Tria represents Filix’s evolution from individual fixtures to complete outdoor systems. The platform integrates bollards, poles, pathway lighting, spotlights, signage, sensors, cameras, Wi-Fi capabilities, and adjustable IP66 track lighting into a flexible solution that can evolve long after installation. Its innovative design has already earned international industry recognition.
Filix products are available today for specification throughout North America with photometric files, Revit models, and specification documentation. By joining the Luminii family, customers also gain expanded local support, a stronger sales network, and easier access to the engineering expertise behind the brand.
Together, Luminii and Filix now offer one of the industry’s most comprehensive portfolios of specification-grade architectural lighting, spanning interior spaces, landscapes, façades, pools, fountains, and underwater environments.
The story of Filix began in a small Croatian town, but its next chapter will be written alongside architects, lighting designers, landscape architects, and specifiers across North America and beyond. With a shared commitment to engineering excellence, flexibility, and customer partnership, Luminii and Filix are helping illuminate every layer of architecture.
