With its central location and proximity to local attractions, the Shangri-La Hotel in Changchun is the ideal base from which to explore the city. The award-winning hotel is the first and only international five-star luxury hotel in the Jilin Province and was recently voted the ‘Best Business Hotel’ in Changchun for the sixth consecutive year.
Standing 25 storeys high above the city’s commercial centre, the property features over 450 guest rooms and boasts extensive conference and banqueting facilities. With dedicated event staff on hand, the hotel offers the highest level of planning expertise, high quality function spaces and meeting venues.
At over 880 square metres, the Grand Ballroom is the largest ballroom within the city of Changchun, capable of hosting up to 900 guests. With such a high capacity, it is used for a multitude of events ranging from international conferences and gala dinners to car launches and theatrical shows. The Grand Ballroom offers a flexible layout and can be divided into three separate rooms for more intimate events.
In 2010, the hotel made the decision to upgrade the Grand Ballroom, ensuring that its facilities remained world-class. With a ceiling height of seven metres, spotlighting events in the pillar-free ballroom was both time consuming and required the use of mechanical lifts to focus the lights. As part of their drive to offer the latest technology, the hotel took the opportunity during the renovations to install Director® DR2 to provide pinspotting.
Using RCL’s patented ‘Select & Direct’ technology to adjust the ballroom’s remote controlled spotlights offered the hotel’s Events team greater flexibility while reducing setup times and costs. Focusing the lights from floor level meant tables could be set up in advanced by the catering staff and then the lighting adjusted to ensure the best possible lighting every time.
